Violinist Erin Benim Mayland has been fortunate to have a career that spans classical stages, Broadway pits, rock stadiums, and recording studios in some of the most revered venues in New York City. Erin has played in the band of Hamilton on Broadway since the show's inception at The Public in 2015. Along with the multi-platinum, Grammy winning Hamilton cast album, she can also be heard on the Hamilton Mixtape and the Hamilton Instrumentals. She accompanied the Hamilton cast to the White House where they performed for the Obamas, and performed live on the 2016 Grammys. Aside from Hamilton, Erin can be heard on the Grammy winning cast album of American Idiot, and she was the featured onstage violinist for the Broadway production of Chaplin. In addition, she has held chairs with the shows The Bridges of Madison County and Something Rotten. Erin has been a member of the Radio City Christmas Spectacular orchestra for three seasons. Television appearances include Late Night with David Letterman and Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Kimmel, and American Idol.

While living in the Bay Area, Erin frequently served as the Acting Concertmaster of the Santa Rosa Symphony and performed with the New Century Chamber Orchestra, the San Francisco Ballet, and Skywalker Orchestra, with whom she recorded numerous movie and video game soundtracks. Erin has degrees in violin performance from the San Francisco Conservatory and the North Carolina School of the Arts.

As a teacher, Erin has taught violin students from ages three through adult for over 20 years. Drawing from the Suzuki method as well as traditional pedagogy, Erin values warmth and humor in her teaching while striving to instill a sense of self-discipline in her students.

RECORDING SESSIONS

Erin has extensive studio experience recording solo violin, with small ensembles, rock bands, and in symphony orchestras in genres spanning classical, movie soundtracks, pop, rock, and Broadway. Highlights from her discography include cast albums such as Hamilton, Moulin Rouge, Frozen, American Idiot with Green Day, and The Bridges of Madison County. Classical recordings include the highly acclaimed "Unremembered" by the composer Sarah Kirkland Snider, and two recordings with the New Century Chamber Orchestra with Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg.

Erin has a home recording studio with a Whisper room, running Logic.

TEACHING

With over 20 years of teaching experience, Erin has nurtured budding violinists from the age of three up through adult. For children, lessons are Suzuki-based but also stress note reading and theory. In addition to teaching the violin, Erin's goal as a teacher is to help each student develop a life long love of music. The discipline required to learn an instrument can be difficult for a child; because of this, Erin strives to create a supportive, warm, and nurturing environment that transcends the traditional violin lesson.

During the pandemic, all lessons will be offered on Zoom. I look forward to resuming in-person violin lessons in Rutherford, NJ as soon as it is safe to do so.

"I took lessons with Erin for four years and she was an amazing teacher. She was patient, thoughtful, and helpful. She always listened to what I wanted to learn and was encouraging. She also became close with me and my family and she played a big role in my life. She’s a wonderful teacher and a wonderful person and that always shines through."

-Sonia, age 16

"Erin was patient and helpful. I fondly remember the weekly lessons we had. Something she did differently from other teachers I had was her teaching of music theory. I am so happy she was able to give me a solid base that I now build upon in my singing." -Isabella, age 16
